New legislation is being introduced throughout Western Europe, North America and Japan to enforce the reduction of particulate matter (PM), nitrogen oxides (NOx), hydrocarbons (HC) and carbon monoxide (CO) in engine emissions. There are differing emission levels depending on the power output of the engine

With additional reductions planned through the next five years, Perkins is already well advanced in the development of engines that will not only comply with tougher legislation and meet ever higher levels of technological complexity, but will also deliver appreciable operating benefits.

How does Tier 4 Interim / Stage IIIB differ from existing legislation?

For a typical industrial engine of 100kW, Tier 4 Interim / Stage IIIB requires a reduction of Particulate Matter (PM) by 91% compared with the existing Tier 3 / Stage IIIA levels, and a reduction of Nitrogen Oxides (NOx) by 17% compared with Tier 3 / Stage IIIA levels.
